The following is a non-exhaustive list of encodings, specialized puzzle types, and clues that you may encounter.

Common encodings

Puzzles almost always include some form of hidden message. Here are some common encodings:

  • A=1, B=2, C=3, …
  • Area codes
  • ASCII
  • Braille
  • Caesar cipher
  • Country codes
  • Morse code
  • Maritime signal flags
  • NATO alphabet
  • Pigpen cipher
  • Resistor color code
  • Semaphores

Specialized puzzle types
